| 概要 | This course will introduce students to a number of modern and contemporary writers from the British Isles, and give students a basic understanding of the range and concerns of literature from that part of the world. In this term, we will look at UK & Ireland based writers in the second half of the twentieth century. Considerable attention will be given to the historical context of a writer or a particular work: for example, we will look at the rise of so-called ‘working-class literature’ from the 1950s and 60s. Literature can be challenging, but it is also exciting, and vital: I sincerely hope any student who takes this course will learn to recognize the elements of good literature, and learn to enjoy it, or learn to enjoy it more than they do now. |
